I am taking part in Wego Health's, Health Activist Writer’s Month Challenge! What this entails is that for the month of April I have to attempt to post daily for the next 30 days with only 2 excused days to my name.
The good thing here is they give us daily topics to post about or we can work our own into the rotation. So here we go.
This first topic is very close to my heart since a couple of year ago I wanted to put together multiple time capsules around the world about diabetes. The thing was when I started researching time capsules I actually found a school, Oglethorpe University in Georgia, home of the International Time Capsule Society (no April Fools joke here) has a registry for time capsules all around the world.
So we have to blog about what would be in the time capsule. So here we go.
I would want in my time capsule information about how diabetes was discovered as a disease. Then the growth of the disease and then the discovery of insulin and so on. Most of this of course would be articles and such so people in the future can read, lean and hopefully understand what we were going through in the 21st century when diabetes became a pandemic. I am not trying to cut the history short but right now diabetes is so huge they need to see how a disease can grow quickly and be prepared for outbreaks of other diseases.
Then I would want the time capsule to filled with the article we as diabetics use on a daily basis. Meters, syringes, pumps and continuous glucose monitors. Then of course insulin vials of the different types of insulin available to us. It would be great if we had some samples of syringes from when insulin was first discovered so the future can see how we advanced. Then there would be multiple videos of diabetics using the equipment, talking about living with diabetes and a host of videos showing researchers working on the cure. Of course if we do the time capsule right now, since there isn't a cure, hopefully by 2112 there would be a cure but if not maybe our information will help the future find a cure.
A cure as we are told isn't far off but who knows. I have talked with people who have had diabetes for years and said since they were diagnosed they have heard that the cure is right around the corner. From what I can see it must be a New York block because that corner hasn't come yet.
Anyway let's keep this short and sweet (no pun intended). The time capsule will have everything the future needs to know about our struggle with the disease and how to hopefully help cure it if isn't already cured. Our future depends on our past and we need to always think of that.
I would want them to know we tried to do our best. We worked together to find a cure as one not apart. I would want the future to see that working together as one is better than working as one alone!
